I was told that if I ever came to the Chicago area I HAD to try Portillo’s, I’m SO GLAD I did because it was one of the best places from our visit. I had the Italian beefs and sausage sandwich (with cheese and both kinds of peppers) along with a jumbo dog (grilled onions no tomato), fries and a drink. I honestly thought I’d just be getting another all beef Kirkland hot dog with some stuff on top, but that’s not what I got AT ALL. I don’t know what they do but that hot dog was perfect! I’ve had Italian beefs but not like this, It was LOADED with peppers and cheese and the sausage was perfectly cooked. I’ve had places really undercook their sausage and that ruins it, but NOT HERE! When I’m back in the area, I’m definitely going back here!

I had never heard of this place until I was in Illinois visiting my in-laws, but I was very impressed. I had only had a Chicago style hot dog at a Cub game many years previously to this trip. My meal at Portillo’s was much better than the Chicago hot dog that I remembered from the past. This restaurant also has a neat history with several past celebrity visitors. This is documented on the walls of the restaurant by signed photos and other memorabilia. Be sire to give this place a try if you are visiting or driving through the area!

Busy chain restaurant. Great menu selections. Awesome prices! Upbeat attitude from all workers. I had the Polish Sausage Dog with extra hot peppers and sweet peppers.

Now I get what everyone is raving about when they talk about the food here. I had the beef and sausage sandwich and it was Delicious. Truly unique to anything I’ve ever had. The gravy is amazing. If you’re OK with a messy, soggy and delicious sandwich then go to Portillo’s.

I don’t like that they don’t take their time with you and don’t confirm my order. I’ve gone twice this past week and both times my order was wrong. I wanted to try the strawberry shortcake since I never have, and they forgot it and then later on “replaced” it when I let them know. I go home, it’s chocolate. I come to Rockford to visit, as I’m from Omaha and I come here specifically because the food is great. Service could be better lately. Other than that, food is always and will always be a staple here!!

Hello Everybody, just had Breakfast at the Machine Shed in Rockford. I arrived with family around 8AM, wasn’t sure if they were open because there wasn’t many cars. But we went right in and was seated. This establishment has a very Country vibe just like the Cracker Barrel complete with store. As said there was only 4 other diners in the establishment. With that being said you would expect at least good food with your order made correctly. This was not the case though, the cook, not chef was not able to get the orders on the right plates and for the quality of the food they served….well I guess I would say mediocre but Not worth the price. Portion size is good; but if you have to scrape the food off my plate to put it with the order it belonged to. Well I didn’t think that looked or felt good. I can only rate the Eggs Benedict and I would go somewhere else, I have definitely had better. I can’t say how there lunch or dinner rush is but I wouldn’t go back to find out. If you choose to dine here for Breakfast I wish you well and pray you receive the your order as you expect. Good Luck my Friend’s

    Great service!
The apples were amazing with the biscuits.
French onion soup was amazing, and the cheese is just right in terms of flavor.
Onion shoe strings a little salty, but good with sauce.
The brisket sandwhich was good, and very meat heavy. Which let the flavor sink in.
The working man’s breakfast was really good and the price for amount of food was perfect.

Absolutely loved it! Whole family stopped here on way back from vacation and we are so glad we did. Great food options, quality was excellent, food portion sizes were great and we all had leftovers. I love that they bring out cottage cheese, Cole slaw, rolls, and zucchini bread for whole family while you wait on your meals. Waitress was excellent! Very polite and attentive to needs. I never had to ask for refills because she handled it. Prices were very reasonable for quality and amount you get. Looking forward to the next chance we get to stop here!

Several of us were meeting there for lunch we went in and were greeted by a not so friendly “hostess” we asked if they served breakfast all day to which she said “No, but we do have a limited breakfast menu right now” she asked how many of us there we so I told her. She walks us to the middle of the room and asked if we wanted table or booth I said table she puts the menu down on the table and walked away. When I went to open my menu it was all wet, sticky and in need of a good wipe down. We all sat down and after a bit a not so friendly server came over and took our drink order. We tried joking with her but she didn’t seem to be in the mood for us and continued her not so friendly attitude. After we ordered I went to the restroom to wash my hands from handling what ever was on that nasty menu and told the hostess she or someone might want to wipe down the menus as there was something on at least one of them however her response was “Oh”. The restroom was dirty, littered with paper towels and toilet tissue on the floor and a toilet gross and dirty.
Our drinks came and they were all correct and fresh.
When she was taking our order we had to repeat several times we were on separate tickets. One person at the table ordered the hot potroast sandwich (like it says on the menu) and she looks at him and says you mean the hotbeef?
Our soups came out one at a time and separated by several minutes taking so long we were thinking she didn’t hear the second person ask for soup. The onion ring appetizer are not at plentiful as they used to be but the flavor was very good.
When our meals were served the potatoes and gravy were barely warm so the gravy was on the thick side. The food was definitely not and good as it used to be in there and the service definitely isn’t as good as it used to be.

Heard great thing about Machine Shed so my wife and I went for dinner. Took a while for the server to take our order. My brisket sandwich tastes like bbq sauce. The meat itself did not have much flavor. My wife had the pork tenderloin sandwich. She said it needed seasoning since it was bland. The coffee was good. One star mostly the service. Server came to out table with the check and quickly said we can pay up front. Then went to serve the other table with a smile.

My Clinic Manager recommended we go here for dinner. Adequate portion, decent price, great red sauce. Bread, salad, and a scoop of ice cream for dessert goes with the entrees. Had live jazz band at their outdoor patio.

So of course I had to come visit this place as we share the same first name. Plus, my wife wanted to check out the market and car show. I do admit that the market and car show was smaller than I expected, but I still enjoyed it. Everybody is nice and friendly.

My wife and her friend wanted a certain wine, in which was only inside at the bar, so the 4 of us (wife, her friend and husband, and myself) decided to sit at the bar in the nice atmosphere. The bartender was extremely nice and very kind. She allowed us to sit at the bar and have a few drinks while everybody else was outside in the heat. When there was no place to sit outside to eat, she also allowed us to eat at a table by the bar area when we asked. Unfortunately we were not able to actually eat at the restaurant since we didn’t have much time, but we did try everything else we could.

My wife really enjoyed the Italian beef sandwich, I enjoyed the personal 8″ pizza, and our friends also enjoyed their pizza. We also did get the bread they sold in the market and it was delicious! They offered tomato, sausage & pepper, and black olive & artichoke. I must admit that I did not try the black olive & artichoke as I do not like artichoke, but the other two breads were fantastic!

The group of us that went do plan on coming back so we can actually try the restaurant when they are open and we’re all looking forward to it.

Not only was the food incredible, but the service was excellent. My wife and I were traveling and the staff and managers of Lino’s made us feel right at home. I thought service of this caliber had died off years ago, we will certainly be back!

This is a lovely establishment with a band and it’s own rendition of the leaning tower of Pisa. The fettuccine Alfredo was delicious. My waitress Monica was very accommodating and professional!
